When choosing the coffee we will be roasting, we focus not only on the quality of the coffee, but also on its unique story. This coffee from the Gayo region of the Indonesian island of Sumatra has several.

In Indonesia, women are around 70% of the workforce in the coffee fields. At the same time, only 10% of them are entrepreneurs and only 20% are land owners (this percentages include co-ownership with spouses). The Ketiara cooperative, on the other hand, is an exception. It has 1,080 members who together own 1,040 hectares of coffee fields, and 71% of these members are women. The cooperative has more than 25 years of experience in coffee cultivation; for the last 12 years they have been exporting their own coffee (about 22 500 bags per year).

Gayo is a region on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, surrounded by mountains and hills, with volcanic soil and a rainforest climate. Coffee trees are grown at an altitude of between 1,300 and 1,550 metres above sea level, under the shade of fruit trees, thus preserving the natural diversity of the region. The coffee is grown organically and after harvesting, it is processed in a way that is unique to Indonesia: wet hulling, which gives the coffee its unique taste – thick and velvety. We have chosen medium light roast for these beans to emphasize the unique character of the coffee.
