This coffee comes to us from the Sunda region of West Java, Indonesia. This coffee is grown exclusively under the shade of various trees, which ensures not only better sustainability, but also a more interesting taste.
Klasik Beans is a cooperative founded in 2008 by a group of producers in Puntang, Java. This small cooperative is serious about quality and respect for people and the environment. The cooperative has set itself the goal of helping to preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage by producing organic, sustainable and fair trade coffees. Production must comply with good agricultural practices (currently the coffee is almost 100% organic and completely shade-grown).

Growing coffee in the shade allows it to ripen more slowly, resulting in a more complete balance of fruitiness, sweetness, and acidity. Large trees protect the coffee bushes from overheating and rapid temperature fluctuations, resulting in more favorable growing conditions with less stress, which in turn helps them be healthier and produce a more stable, even harvest.

The leaves of the trees also provide natural fertilizer, the roots help retain moisture and prevent soil erosion, the shade of the trees reduces water evaporation, and the coffee trees can survive drought periods more easily. And, of course, an important aspect of growing coffee in the undergrowth is biodiversity, which has a more positive impact on the surrounding environment.

This coffee grows on the slopes of the Guntur, Halimu Tilu and Puntang volcanoes, where the mineral-rich soil creates a clearer and more structured flavor profile. The altitude of 1200 – 1500 meters gives it a complexity of flavor, while the hand-picking of the coffee berries ensures the highest quality.
